1st and foremost it is not the Governments position to continue failed enterprises. Look at ERTL.
Solyndra or one of the Electric car (Fisker, Swallow, and now Tesla [rumored trouble here]) companies now going or gone broke trying to sell an overpriced item in a world economy. Solyndra tried for $1000.00 for the same panel you can buy at the hardware store for under a hundred. Fisker was trying to sell a car for $117,000.00 when one can buy a car for $15K and up. Nevermind they were assembeling in Sweden they were an American Company? I'll never understand building overseas and calling it Domestic? Oh and how about those windmills making power but only on breezie days otherwise no power. So much for prethinking the project.Fred senior started Ertl in his basement at the end of WW-II (1947-8) and then as time went forward all the little Ertl's started thier own Diecast operations in and around Dyersville, Iowa. Tom came along and WOW did he produce a right fine 1/18th scale Oldsmobile (HiWay 61) hardtop. They all sold Tractors as that was the hot comodity for quite a while. John Deere was their mainstay as John Deere sold all of their tractors at their farm supply stores nationwide. One day John Deere cancelled their exclusive contract and started using other manufacturers to supply their dealers. Eventually All of the Ertl's (Siblings/ Brother's/ Sisters & Children) each had their version of the 57 Chevrolet & a basement factory for diecast, here, here! Fred Sr. had a taste of big money(profit) so he was unwilling to continue here (In the USA) and let the Mexicans as well as the Chinese do it for him. When Barack Obama was not around to get TARP Funds from or a bailout he (Fred Sr.)sold ERTL Collectibles to Racing Champions all well & good! Then they (RC-2) had the same problems, No TARP Funds to keep making little cars for a dying audience. Remember kids were no longer making scale kits by AMT (Ertl Owned) or buying diecast cars, they were "Gaming". Remember we are the last of the Car Nuts, some three or four hundred of us. Todays Kids are "GAMERS" they don't need toys, just a computer and a program/cartridge thus what has happened to our hobby, hardly any of us left, our Grandchildren are not interested in us or our hobby either..George, you are welcome to start a factory here but with a shrinking audience. There are still no TARP Monies and I don't think we can convince the powers that be you are a "GREEN COMPANY" Making Lead - Zemak cars for the worlds consumption/needs. I doubt an American Company (Yours) would be able to generate enough volume to be able to sell some of thier $500 dollar cars which would be the sales price after figuring costs of Materials, Advertising, Returns, Profit, Return on Investment and Medical Coverage for the employees as well as their Salary. Assuming we have free space to do this in. In analizing things to get started I must ask, DO YOU HAVE A BASEMENT available? How about some savings to blow thru? Any Friends willing to part with vast sums of money to get you going? I commend you on your first 1/24th scale car choice, I know you have many agonizing years making a positive selection from the mass of cars available. Your company profile of making nothing but hardtops is also commendable but if you made convertibles too you could use the tool twice as much, paying it off sooner. Your first selection of a 57 Oldsmobile 98 hardtop is a good one quite possible near the top of desireable models to produce. Please let us know where we need to respond to in placing orders. Thanks for your endevours. Sincerely
