PICS (1:1) It's Monday morning, so get back to work! Something for the truckies...........
The aesthetic opposite of all the elegant cars in Bob Mason's excellent coverage of the Greystone Mansion Concours, it's a 1929 Coleman that I saw at a little shindig the local ATCA chapter threw in S. Deerfield, MA. on 5.6.12.It saw service with a New Hampshire town road crew for many years, making it one of the very few ever to do so back here in the east. Coleman was founded in Omaha, Nebraska in 1923, but they didn't actually begin building trucks until 1925 when the company moved to Littleton, CO. Production continued right through WW 2, with Coleman providing crane carriers to the Army Corps of Engineers. After the war, civilian vehicles were once again assembled by the company. These proved very popular as road plows with highway departments in the high snow country out west. Enormous twin ignition Buda inline six puts out a whopping 138 horsepower and sounded great unmuffled through that single straight stack.... Heavy duty everything.... Leaf springs a foot deep on the front axle.... ...and coil overloads on all four corners if they weren't enough.... BTW, if you're interested in seeing this truck in person and hundreds more, the American Truck Historical Society's National Convention is being held in W. Springfield, MA this year from May 31 thru June 2. For more details....CLICK HERE Thanx fur lookin' and....
