Your probably right Marlowe
All three of my "old" cars have non-original stereo systems in them. My Toronado has speakers installed on the package tray (NOT CORRECT OR ORIGINAL), and I have an Alpine Amp in the trunk and a 12 disc RF CD Changer in the trunk. Why CD? Because the car was my daily driver about 12 years ago, pre Ipod, Iphone USB connection etc.. That was what was in vogue back then. Anyway aside from the package tray which could be replaced easily nothing has been butcher or altered. I found stereos that fit in the stock openings in all my cars so IF someone wanted to put them back to original they could. I could care less. WHen I drive them I want to hear CLEAR music that's not staticy and if I want to crank it up when Im doing 70 MPH I can! I can appreciated a Trailer Queen but to me they are useless!!!! I'd rather a clean solid car that I can drive and enjoy. A car isnt a painting just to be looked at so... I've also found that drivers just about ALWAYS drive better and are more dependable then the TQs. To each his/her own.
