Not sure I understand why speed shifting is hard on a clutch. The clutch is really an
afterthought in a speed shift. It is engaged so little - just enough time to let let the syncros work - and truthfully, the clutch may not even be needed if the rpms allow the shift. I'm thinking that the new trannys can't take the torque or the clutch springs aren't as strong as they used to be. I tried speed shifting on a few newer cars and they reacted like "What? You want me to shift now? Oh . . . okay - here is the next gear, ho-hum. Try to speed shift a BMW and you will wonder where the testosterone went (and you might wind up with a several thousand dollar repair bill to boot) . . .I could slam my '87 Mustang GT 5 liter to my heart's content with my foot in the radiator and it would always oblige positively without hesitation. And I never had to replace the clutch or the transmission. The "Z" rated tires were another story . . .
