Message: PICs 1/12 Low Cost '58 Vette Hope everyone doesn’t find this too tedious but now that I’ve gotten a better handle on photos (at least I’ve found some acceptable interior lighting) I’m now able to indulge my two favorite hobbies, photography and model cars. I’d like get some shots up of my 12-scale cars and I’m gonna start out with the low end. This is a 1958 Corvette by Gearbox Toys selling new on eBay from $70 to $125, used from $50. Solido makes one as well (or are they related?). As you can see from the photos you get pretty much what you pay for – dogleg hinges throughout, imperfectly applied paint, minimal interior and under-hood features (although there are wires and hoses). It comes with a removable hard top but removing it reveals an ugly locator hole. It’s a bit under scale – Wikipedia says 1:1 wheelbase is 102” so with the model’s measuring 8.625” that’s 1:11.8. Altogether, though, considering the price it does sort of pose pretty on the shelf if you stand back a bit.
