I had internet connection problems for the past week.
And no internet connection since Saturday. Up until Saturday I was able to get the connection working several times with the combination of system restores and re-setting the router. At one point the connection stayed up and running for two days and at times would just lose connection while up. But Saturday lost internet connection and could not get it to reconnect. Figuring with the holiday weekend and if I needed a new router shipped to me it would not ship out and wouldn’t be on the move until Tuesday anyway so I decided to just wait it out until Tuesday to call AT&T.Tuesday after spending several hours on the phone with an AT&T tech today and later with an AT&T service guy at the house I'm back on line. The tech guy originally thought the problem was the ethernet cable so I went out and bought a new one. The new ethernet cable did not get me connected. Tech guy called me back and tried several things but couldn't get an internet connection to even to testing. He then called an AT&T engineer to checkout the line and discovered the internet connection was not connected on the phone line. Then I had to wait for the service guy to show up who was scheduled to come Wednesday but came Tuesday afternoon around 3pm. He first checked the phone line on the outside of the house and decided to replace the 30 year old phone line connection box with a new bow and rewired it making sure the phone line was good. Then we went inside the house to see if the router was working correctly for startup. Was not getting an internet signal to the to the router. After making sure all the cable connections to the router and computer were correct and still no internet connection to the router. He just happened to have a new one in his truck like the one I have. He hooked the new one on and bingo!!!! Internet connection computer came up and connected to the internet as it should. The AT&T tech guy called me back this morning to see if the service guy could fix the problem which he did.I did have to uninstall and reinstall my Microsoft Security Essentials this morning because the update for the spy ware/malware definitions would not update last night and this morning but the protection was still there. So now everything is up and running as it should.
