MArlowe I would call it engineering rather then "quality
Quality has nothing to do with these accidents. Also I believe ALL cars now have the type of power window switch that you have to PULL UP to make the window go up. I'm not sure when they started using this type of switch but my moms 2006 Chrylser 300 has the PULL UP to close type switches AND it also reverses if something is stuck in the window channel. SO this technology does exist in American cars now too, just not sure WHEN they started this. To be honest, I didn't think about WHY power window switches were changed and I now see the reason. I found the pull up type to be slightly annoying, BUT if it just saves ONE life in the next 20 years it was worth changing the design IMO. What I don't understand is how these kids were able to stand on the button? We're talking about very young kids who should have been strapped into their car seats and not climbing on the door panels. Also a 15 yo kid??? HOW the hell could a 15 year old get killed in this mannar? He didn't have mental issues and it was said that he was almost ready to get his drivers license! That said you would think he would have enough sense not to play with windows or stick his head in one? Just not sure how he got caught up in the window. LAST if in mot mistaken ALL cars with power windows have a drivers master LOCK OUT for this purpose. Why wasnt it in the LOCK position with small kids in the car???
