1965 Impala SS Convertible bought used in 68...
Silver blue/white interior and a black top. Pretty car but a dog...283/2barrel with a powerglide. My dad bought it for me as my first car as I was off to Pitt and the family was moving to California. He didn't want me driving around the winter of 67-68 in Pennsylvania with something unreliable as he put it when they were 2500 miles away. The convertible was as far as he'd go as he was a convertible fan. We lived in Johnstown,PA and he and I and a buddy of his headed to the Mannheim auction in Harrisburg before school started. Recollection serves me he paid $1700 for it. I was allowed to pick from the cars out in the staging area but he decided what a 17 year old should drive! LOL !! I guess within reason didn't include a beautiful 65 vette convertible with the 300hp 327 and a powerglide! Even had power windows!!! Dark blue/blue interior and a white top. I said but DAD IT"S AN AUTOMATIC... HOW MUCH TROUBLE WOULD I GET IN?? No dice! If I remember correctly the Vette rolled through the lane for $3200. Amazing how one remembers perfect details of certain days in our lives. When the school year was up I drove that car to California....next was a NEW 69 Z/28!!! Wish I had it now.
Great question Phil!
