1965 Super Wildcat 4-speed (PICS)
During recent years, the original owner of a '65 Buick Wildcat convertible has begun displaying his car at some of the local car shows here in the Pacific Northwest. I saw the car most recently last Saturday at the All Buick Open in Puyallup, located near Tacoma, and snapped the photos below. This car was factory-ordered with many of the most desirable options -- dual quad 425-cid Super Wildcat, 4-speed manual transmission, chrome-plated road wheels, air conditioning. The car is flat-out stunning, and draws attention wherever it is displayed. The front fenders carry Buick's beautiful cornering lamp option. Rear styling shows some of the sculptured look that was typical of GM's great full-size designs for '65. I should have asked the owner to close the deck lid fully for my photo! Surprisingly for a car ordered with 4-speed, the owner did not specify the bucket seats. The notchback bench seat is, however, supremely comfortable, as I can attest from the '65 Wildcat Custom that I owned during the 1990's. Heart of the car is the Super Wildcat option, with its unique, chromed dual snorkel air cleaner, dual 4-bbls, and finned aluminum valve covers -- one of the most beautiful V8's of the 1960's.
