Marlowe, Robert and Paul - let's have a bit of fun.
It's no secret that I'm not in favor of sniper programs. But, I think I've come up with a way to make them acceptable, exciting and fun. All that has to be done is to level the playing field. Here are three scenarios to contemplate. They all pretty much follow the present Ebay structure in that they are timed auctions.SCENARIO #1. THE PREMISE All bidders who intend to utilize a sniper program must register with Ebay before placing a bid. AUCTION RULES:1) Ebay, at the beginning of any auction, will place a public notice on those auctions for which snipers have registered. 2) Any bidder who uses an unregistered sniper program will not be recognized in the final tally. This way, anyone who wishes to bid on an auction will know beforehand that he is liable to be sniped and can made a sound judgment as to whether or not to bid on an auction.SCENARIO #2. THE PREMISE Sniper only auction. AUCTION RULES:1) Only those bidders who use a sniper program, registered or unregistered, are allowed to participate.2) The auction will be posted for 4 days and 28 seconds. During the first four days, bidders may ask questions of the seller, do their research and decide on a price.3) Snipers may place their bid at anytime, however bids will not be posted until the final 28 seconds of the auction and the bidding process and will continue for 28 seconds, at which time the auction will end. This is perfect for you guys who use a sniper program. You can zonk out while your computers go to war with each other. You don't have to worry about any non-sniper program users interfering with your fun.SCENARIO #3.THE PREMISE Same basic rules as listed in Scenario #2 with the following changes:AUCTION RULES:1) Anyone can bid - snipers and non-snipers.2) All sniper bids must be entered within the 4 day, 28 second time frame at which time Sniper bids will no longer be accepted.3) Bids will not be disclosed until the end of 4 days and 28 seconds, at which time all bids will be posted in the order received. 4) All non-snipers will then have 10 more minutes to post their bids at which time the auction will end.5) The highest bid will win the auction. This is great for all concerned. You snipers can press your buttons and go to bed while those of us who enjoy the thrill of the hunt will stay up until 3AM to bid on an item - and will have a chance to actually obtain it.What do you guys think? Sounds fair, doesn't it?
