Acme's Ratican Jackson & Stearns Altered
Since the RJS Fiat Topolino Altered came out from Acme/GMP, I've been really disappointed with all of the errors that were made in building the car. To mention a few: wrong front wheels, wrong tires, wrong axle, hole in the hood for the blower is incorrect, wrong engine (BBC vs. Olds) wrong chassis, body in two pieces vs. one, parachute in wrong location, and naughyde cover on nose missing. But I bought it anyway because I knew Don Ratican back during my college years. Now I'm working on getting it as right as I can without buggering it up and the first two things I'm going to do is make the naughyde nose cover and get the front wheels and tires sorta right. The 1:1 car has ARE magnesium 12 spoke wheels mounting small Pirelli automobile tires. The wheels on the model are ARE 12 spoke, but are several inches too large and also too narrow and they mount motorcycle tires. Well, nobody makes the smaller 12 spokes, but I found some tires that will get the job done and be a lot "less wrong" so that's the first step and it's done.I spoke with Ron Stearns and he's going to send me a picture of the nose cover taken up close and I'm going to make it into a decal and apply it to the nose.If any of you have this model and want to do the same let me know and I can help you.The real car: The model (thanks Rich Sufficool and the Diecast Zone): The new tires on my model: It'll be interesting to see how this comes out. The front tires, although not exactly right, actually look better and fit better than I thought they would. Getting the nose cover done should be a piece of cake.
