Remember these wagon tailgates ?

1971 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Station Wagon Glide-Away Tailgate

Introduced on full-sized station wagons from Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick in 1971, the Glide-Away Tailgate split the upper window section from the lower tailgate section. The glass panel slid up into the roof, and the tailgate lowered down below the rear cargo area. This process was fully power operated on some models, and put an end to those tight parking situations that prevented lowering or opening the tailgate in the past.

This feature continued through the 1976 model year on GM full size wagons.
