(PIC )Correct. I had a 1972 Chevy Kingswood. You had to raise the window first, either by a switch
on the dash, or with a key in a lock on the back of the right rear fender. Once the window was up in the roof, you could manually lower the tailgate. The electric version was optional on the Kingswood (the Impala equivalent). Mine was manual. I think the electric verson was standard on the Kingswood Estate (aka Caprice wagon) As with any pocket door, which the tailgate essentially was, it began to stick with age. I used to oil it now and then and it was fine.As has been said so often here, I loved that car and wish I had kept it. I was ripped off by a crooked mechanic, and sold it rather than fixing it. I've always wondered how much more life I could have gotten out of it if I had been a bit smarter back then.It looked just like this one, with stock wheels instead of those foolish oversized ones.
