Mine worked great ! I had a 1974 Chevrolet
Caprice Estate wagon and that feature was excellent and it was very reliable and convenient for 20 years !

Only in perhaps the last few months I had the big Chevy in 1995 or so did the tailgate motor begin to give out and, even then, I could still manually open and close the back.

Sure do, my brother in law had a Caprice Wagon. The thing was always malfunctioning. (EOM) by Ken Allen #21883.1
I believe the glass upper section was power operated on all models, while the lower tailgate section by Lawrence Kalfayan #21883.2
(PIC )Correct. I had a 1972 Chevy Kingswood. You had to raise the window first, either by a switch by Tom Joyce #21883.2.1
