CMC '58 Ferrari rear fender modification (PICS)
The beautiful new Ferrari by CMC is certainly sensuous and well detailed but for me, the rear fender opening looked a little "lazy" with the wheel nowhere near concentric in the opening. I'm sure there are some restorations of these cars with less than accurate fender openings, but all the pictures that I have of original cars show much more concentric wheel to fenderwell radii.
The wheels are easily removeable on the CMC, so if you have some basic modelling skill, some simple preparation and a Dremel (or equivalent), the wheelwell can be opened up carefully and the ground edge touched up with a fine brush and some Humbrol bright red enamel.
I first of all used a water-soluable fine marker to outline where I wanted to grind away and then masked the adjacent area with thick tape to minimize any potential grinder errors and carefully (and slowly) removed the unwanted material.
I'm really pleased with what I consider to be a more accurate "look' on the car.
The first pic shows the wheelwell as produced by CMC, and the next two show the modified opening
