Who ist the youngest here on the forum?
I think the story has two pages. The first are the good one. Today we got nearly everything what we wont. And we got diecast quality we never got 30-40 years ago, and we get it to an resonable price. IXO, Minichamps, Norev etc. Ok, for people they like US cars its a little bit special. We must invest much more money for handbuilts. But when I start in the end of the eighties to collect Cadillac, it was for me unbelievable, that I have 20 years later 120 different typs of Cadillac. And I can't buy everything (I think on the many wonderful Elegance models for example).
But on the other hand, I think we are the last generation they collect modelcars with this enthusiasmus. When I visit a swap meet in Germany, 95% from the visitors has grey hair. When we was young, cars are the biggest thing. They promises freedom and good feelings, and we dream about it. Today, streets are full with cars, we have traffic jams every day, every hour, and politician make cars responsible for the climate disaster. Image are changing and young people lost interest on cars. When a boy shows my collection, maybe he says "cool", but when it hears, that I pay (for example) 250 $ for one, he can't understand, he think I'm crazy. The young people collect for example "Star wars" figures. It's the same problem with modeltrains. "Märklin" the oldest factory here gets bankrupt about the same reason. It's a sad story. The most people from my age had a "Märklin".
But I enjoy our wonderful hobby how long I life. You can see it in my other post. I wish everyone much fun and joy. Christoph
