Chris, I remember back when I was alive and growing up in Massachusetts
there was a department store in the mid '50's on North Street in Pittsfield called Lord's Department Store. On the 1st Floor they sold all kinds of toys for various ages and in the back section was a whole wall stacked with those yellow boxes of Dinky Toys. They sold for $.75 and then $.85 and I would keep checking as new models were introduced. Then upstairs, they sold Raliegh bicycles, that is, the real Raleigh bikes made in Nottingham that had fenders. I bought a Robin Hood for $49.95. In the early '80's, I restored it for about $400! Those were the days.
Those stores you describe in the UK sound like great places to find models. Wish we still had them in the US.
