Hi David, I pass by the old Raleigh factory on my way to work ....
now the site houses part of Nottingham University!

In Raleigh's hey day they employed 20,000 people! Now production is mainly in Korea! Raleigh still have a presence near Nottingham - an office!

I too have great memories of the toy stores in Nottingham. Most of the department stores used to organise special shows in the run up to Christmas. One of the best was the Nottingham Co-op store. This store was built in the early 1900's and was used until a few years ago. Now it is a casino! My first sight of Ideal Toys Motorific motorised toy cars was at the Co-op! They had a super layout with many cars going round the circuit. My brother managed to even get hold of a catalogue! Arh memories!

Cheers Chris
