Brody's Stork Nest was the great toy store in Asheville, North Carolina,
in the 1950's and 60's. Mr. Brody had a downtown location across the street from Pritchart Park, and he stocked Lionel trains and the first Dinky cars I ever saw (early 50's). His toys were all top rate. Sadly, the store died with Mr. Brody in the 80's, and I missed the going out of business sale. I remember taking my son there for his 8th birthday (late 60's), giving him a $20 bill, an hour, and letting him go. He loved it!
In the late 80's another Asheville merchant found too much growing competition for his office supply store. Starting with Ertl banks, he expanded his model car business until this became his only stock. He is still around (Asheville Diecast) and over the years I bought Collector's Classics (Buby), Rio, Vitesse, and my first Brooklin from him. Sadly, today he no longer handles Brooklin and most of my other favorites are not in production. I still look at his stock of Corgis and now and then I find a Chinese-made die cast of interest. It's a good local shop and I hope it lasts as long as I do!
