I think they exaggerated....
Does this sound "fishy" to you?I was looking though some old auctions held by a company here in the US called ""Profiles in History". They specialize in selling Hollywood memorabilia. I ran across item related to the late Steve McQueen, and found these Marmande 1/43 models. The auction company claimed they were specially commissioned by the Le Mans movie's prop-master for the movie for planning shot arrangement and special recreations of race sequences. Because of this "special" history, they were estimating their value at $4000-$6000 USD. What do you think? Aren't special effects/filming models usually much larger? I am always leery of what PIH claims to make their items more rare and authentic, after discovering several items over the years with questionable history and authenticity. Mr. Manou couldn't have been able to sculpt, paint, and detail these models until the cars arrived for the filming due to the specific nature of their markings and livery. By the time he would have been able to deliver them, would have filming been too far along to have been useful? Also, why make the 908 since it was not to have been seen in the movie, and for just setting up shot sequences, why would any of them needed to be so detailed? Besides, all of them are too crude to have been used in any filming sequences. I think they are much more likely to have have either given to or purchased by the prop-master when Mr. Manou released them for the general public. The story PIH gives though would surely make them more rare (and thus more expensive) to anyone who saw them in their auction.
