Not often Shelby got it wrong, but sadly he did on 19 June 1966.
The Amon/McLaren car travelled 8 meters more than the Miles/Hulme car. The car that travels the greatest distance over the 24 hour period always has and always will win Le Mans.Ken Miles contributed probably as much as anybody to the Ford GT 40 programe and genuinely deserved the triple crown, Daytona-Sebring-Le Mans, as his reward, but the ACO set the rules and it was up to the competitors to race by them.
