I agree, Marlowe hit the nail on the head, what is also sad is that the industries we still
have here that are surviving (some sectors like Silicon Valley-software are doing quite well right now) like business services, robotics, and the science orientated (medical, medicine-meds etc) companies can not find enough home grown talent to fit the growing list of high-paid jobs (software developers, tech writers, high-tech engineers, etc. These jobs pay fairly well from 85 to 175K/yr with fabulous benefits and this is not including management and top tier executivesFor example my wife was thrown a celebration 'lunch party' with her fellow software workers (silicon Valley) and there were lots of photos. This is a very successful software company who is on their way up the ladder with a very hot product. My wife wanted to show me the pics of the people she works with (many I knew from just hearing about them from work conversations with my wife) so I could put faces with names.Well to my surprise, there were just a few native Americans present; the vast majority were from India, Korea and China and as it turned out the other ones I thought were local talent turned out to be Russians. Don't take me wrong, my wife loves the working atmosphere and the people she works with, these are fabulous people who provide a very rich and rewarding experience. My wife and I love hearing their stories about where they came from and then their experience while they are here. It is just another perk while working in Silicon Valley. The point I am trying to make is that what Marlowe said is true, those manufacturing jobs will never come back, all this yammering in the press/politicians about jobs is totally futile. Aside from the resumption of home construction (which is way off in the future due to the housing market demise/ U.S. & Europe) and the extreme vacancy of commercial properties; the jobs are gone.....overseas. Americans let low prices drag them away from main street U.S.A (the small merchant) and herded themselves into big block stores and the Amazon jungle. And the final insult is that we have not educated our next generation in math and science. Silicon Valley is not hiring these people from overseas to save money, they are getting the same pay and benefits as my wife.....they get hired because they are educated in computer science and we don't have kids coming out of college or with natural experience to fill the jobs.America is still the leader in leading, creating and invention and the rest of the world still knows that. China may make the goods, but American corporations disperse them (the lion's share of profits); unfortunately at our workers expense. Just think about it it, it is the American middle class that pays the bills to keep this countries lights on....what happens when they vanish for lack of work? Corporate America should be responsible and pay American taxes when doing business overseas....America needs that money to educate our next high tech work force.
