PM’s decision to issue a 1:18 vintage Cadillac ambulance was inspired. Though the subject matter won’t be for everyone, for me it was essential because I love Caddys from this era. Collectors with even a passing interest will already know that the hood and rear passenger doors on this model are sealed. Instead the emphasis has been placed on an absolutely knockout finish, especially fine depictions of the top-mounted emergency lighting and a stunning rendering of the interior compartment intended for the vehicle’s “guest of honor.” This space is meticulously detailed and realistic to a fault, with authentic Formica flooring, attendants’ jump seats and the sundry first aid and life saving apparatus from the era in evidence. The padded gurney is an especially nice touch, but don’t try to extract it…unlike the coffin in PM’s hearse, this fixture is there to stay. As a model per se, there are plenty of additional details to admire. The overall exterior fit and finish is superb, with front doors opening realistically into the fenders. The exterior chrome is top-notch and the wheels, with clearly visible valve stems, bespeak “Cadillac Motor Car Division.” The grill is blackwashed and light lenses fore and aft are masterful, with no dreaded mounting posts. All in all, an exquisitely conceived and executed replica. If you want to add your Collector Review, CLICK HERE. |
