"Totally Tougher to Last Longer... the 1972 Chevrolet® Pickup." America's most popular truck in 1971, had it all over other pickups again in 1972. Uncompromising performance and durability made the 1972 Chevy Pickup a favorite at work on the farm or construction jobsite. The bold new grille design introduced in 1971, five engine and five transmission options, along with many refinements in trim and interior comfort in the Cheyenne trim level, made the 1972 Chevy a hit with suburban drivers too.

Engines ranged from the optional 165-hp 292 cubic inch High-Torque six- cylinder, to the 255-hp 350 cubic inch V-8, or high-performance 400 V-8 rated at 300-hp. Available 4-speed close ratio manual or Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmissions transferred the power to a standard 3.73 or optional 4.11 semi-floating rear end attached to smooth-riding trailing arms with coil springs, a suspension design still used today on superspeedway stock cars.
