Danbury Mint has done a great job of capturing the essence of this fast finned Plymouth; proportions are right on, the chrome and gold "Mylar" side trim is accurately replicated even down to the texture of the tres gauche Mylar. The gold grille seems to smile broadly...partly because of its great expanse, more so because of its bodacious gold tone color, but mostly because of the 361 CID Dual Quad V8 lurking in the super detailed engine bay...attached to a 3 speed Torqueflite push button automatic; this car is definitely in a hurry!
Swing open either door and you'll find another dose of 50s "moderne" interior design; DM captured the total effect of the interior color scheme to the nines...and this interior is equipped exactly the way we've come to expect them...right down to the articulated seat backs and the rearview mirror mounted on the dash (done, I think, so the driver could get a great view of those gargantuan fins). Open the trunk and everything is in its place...even the metal spare tire disc cover is held in place with a proper mounting bolt...and its all removable. Of course, the fuel filler door located on the left fin, is fully operable. The suspension also functions but, alas, the windshield wipers do not.
It's apparent DM spent a great deal of time on this one and it certainly is a real "keeper" in my humble opinion...its a 4.5 star replica if there ever was one (the fixed wipers, don'cha know...) and I recommend its inclusion in your 50s, MOPAR , or Just For Fun collections!!! The issue price is $112 + S&H. (12/17/1999)
