If you question the wisdom of DM issuing this model when FM has two in the marketplace, think again. This black, fuel injected coupe is quite well done; replete with all those little DM details we all love...including the antenna that goes down to half size (a GM thing in '63) to the operating gas cap, even a saddle tan leather trimmed interior and an excellent dash/wood steering wheel replication that's leaps beyond the norm. The Onyx Black paint is usual DM quality...although I think the car would've been a bit more subtle in Marlin Blue metallic with a dark blue leather...but color is subjective and selection of same has never been a DM strong point. `
The overall picture of this model is a very good one although there does seem to be some very minor detail problems in the area of the front bumper mounting; it looks like the car was backed into by another and left without a note of apology (let alone insurance info!!!). The other is the size of the wheels and tires; they seem just a tad too small.....detailed to extreme, but slightly on the small side, nonetheless. These nits don't detract enough for me to nix the model; overall, it's an excellent replica....but it's not DM's best effort to date.
Here, we hope, is the last version of this beautiful, but over-replicated, milestone Corvette. This one hits the bull's eye that both the FM diecast (way off, IMHO) and the resin-cast (slightly askew) miss in varying degrees. I would say this new DM release is probably the best 1/24 scale '63 Vette available...but it's not as great as it could've been. 4 stars. It is the BEST version of this image currently available as of 01/01/00!!!! (01/01/2000)
