Do you remember the factory-built "Concept Cars" of the 60's - production vehicles that were customized for display at Auto Shows, yet were close enough to be evocative of the production cars that were being promoted. The folks at DM have applied this technique to their '62 T-Bird, a fantasy Concept Car, but with a contemporary rake to the windshield that never would have passed muster with Ford executives back then. Finished in House of Color Sunset Pearl, this one will stand out on any shelf. Details, details, details - T-Bird emblems in the headrests, de-chromed flat tail light lenses and Raydot-style bullet mirrors. Both the grille and the hood pins are photo-etched for added realism. Dual racing-style LeMans fuel fillers are mounted on either side of the car. The car is a lowered sport coupe with a fabulous pearlescent finish and a chopped, removable hardtop. The great features of the "factory" Bird previously issued by DM are retained, of course, including the tonneau cover that converts this into a "two-seater," the tilt-away steering wheel, the wire wheels, and more. Not much has been done to the engine compartment - just a bit of chrome on the air cleaner and a different treatment of the under-hood area. The nifty spring mechanism that locks the trunk lid in place is the finishing touch. The issue price is $109 + S&H. (03/10/2000) (04/23/2000) |
