The car, looking more like something from the 1960's TV show, "The Jetsons", was perhaps the quintessential icon of the gauche 1950's chrome cruisers. If you liked your cars to stand out, if you wanted to be seen as you took Judy and Elroy to school, this was your ride. Danbury presents the epitome of gaudy 1950's styling in this splashy red and white two-door hardtop. They give us everything that came with it. From the long and rakish continental kit to the option of having our model sport the popular-for-its-day cruiser skirts or letting the chrome-trimmed wheel-well go disrobed. The doors, trunk and especially the hood, fit as if cut out by a surgical laser. The cavernous trunk, suitable for storing Rosie the robot, is wonderfully finished. The folding seats and fold down visors highlight the interior. The working suspension seems adequate for that floating boulevard cruiser ride and the engine bay is simply awesome. Every conceivable wire, cable and vacuum line that could be accurately replicated, was. Even if you're not George or Judy Jetson and even if you don't care for the garish look of the car itself, the model is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The only possible thing Danbury may have left out is one of those Spacely Sprockets! 5 Galactic Stars! The issue price is $115. (06/12/2001) |
