Danbury Mint 1:24 1931 Chevrolet Series AE Pickup

Chevy's first foray into the pickup truck arena was the 1931 Roadster Pickup.  Think of it-imagine buying a pickup truck today that's also a convertible.  It's not so surprising, however, when you consider the fact that Chevrolet's early pickups trailed its passenger car styles by only a year.

DM has done it again with a well-executed model.  This one is loaded with nifty little features.  There's a removable top-up roof and a top-down boot.  The windshield tilts out.  Engine detailing is great-with wires and all.  The spare mounts under the bed and can be removed.  The finish is a flawlessly applied Blue Bell Blue with black fenders, accented with superbly done yellow pin-striping.  The closer you examine this little beauty, the more the fine details become evident.

Models like this have made me a fan of pickup truck die cast models.  The best part is that DM has done a set of four "first pickup" models (a 1925 Ford Model T, 1929 Dodge, and 1937 Studebaker being the other three,) each one a jewel of miniaturization.  Fair warning--get one and you may just wind up with the set. The issue price is $118 + S&H. (08/07/1998)
