Chrysler introduced the Town & Country as a mid-year 1941 model. As six cylinder, six and nine passenger "wagons" they had the look of a sedan. After World War II the model line was expanded to luxurious six and eight cylinder sedans and convertibles. DM has chosen to replicate one of the 3,309 eight cylinder convertibles made in 1948 in Regal Maroon with maroon leather interior. This rich color perfectly offsets the real wood inserts with realistically grained plastic outline panels. The "Spitfire" engine is well done but lacks plug wires.
The doors open correctly "inside" the fenders, while the opening trunk has cabinet style hinges. The interior, although dark, has nice detail on the door and side panels. Under the dash are the heater and the handbrake. The "jukebox" radio and dash controls are here in all their glory. The (Superballoon) wide whitewall tires, now readily available after the war, go well with the chrome trim rings. Exterior plating is beautiful with moldings and emblems detail painted as they should be. The undercarriage is black with the engine, transmission, exhaust and fuel tank in silver.
As someone posted on the BB, this model has to be DM's "class act". Popular with the rich and famous, the Town & Country's star shone brightly, but flickered out. Although the name lived on, these "land yachts" had come and gone by the end of 1950. The issue price is $109 + $5.80 S&H. (07/18/1998)
