As a companion to Tony Perrone's informative review on the reissue of the 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, let me point out this image's various features. The finish is done in gleaming, Ferrari Red. The hood, with simulated straps, lifts off. The engine detailing is acceptable for this vintage. The rear deck hinges up to reveal the driver's rollbar, gas tank and filler cap, as well as the removable spare. The Spartan interior has soft plastic seats and decal-style gauges. There's a (plastic) removable half-tonneau cover as well. Undercarriage detailing is very nice and the chromed wire wheels, though molded plastic, are crisply rendered. The suspension "gives" at each corner (deliberate?), yet with no springs. A sharp-looking set of black, tuned exhaust pipes snake along each side, ending in four large "cornetto" tips at the rear The cockpit seems simplistic, with a somewhat toy-like aura. I'm sure the leather seats and transmission tunnel on the reissue add much, especially if the gauges are also in 3-D. A set of racing seat belts would have been a nifty extra. I have the reissued DM 1931 Mercedes-Benz SSKL and the cockpit, with its leather seats and 3-D instrument panel, is super-sharp. Nevertheless, overall, the model is a standout. Even as a first issue, this image has enough "goodies" to make it a nice addition to your collection. (11/17/1999) (11/17/1999) |
