After struggling to convince Henry Ford II to build the first Mustang, Lee Iacocca's idea was a well-proven success by the time the '66 Mustang came into production. The Danbury Mint has truly captured a piece of this part of American automotive history in this sharp, detailed representative of the beloved Mustang generation. The shiny rich burgundy color, accentuated by two raised strips running along each side, looks sharp against the textured black vinyl top. The chrome detail throughout is well done and precisely placed. Door, trunk and hood openings all have a superb fit which produces smooth opening and closing operation. Other features of this car that bring you back to the world of the '60s are the Mustang's great body design and the roominess found under the hood. The 289 cu. in. engine, chrome air cleaner and valve covers, exhaust manifolds, oil filter and distributor are all clearly visible. As you look inside the car you see the classy style of the steering wheel with matching wood grain instrument panel, and on the floor the clutch, brake pedal, and floor shift. Front and back seats are complete with lap style seat belts. A glance at the door sill reveals the small Ford emblem. Jerry and I both agree that Danbury did an excellent job replicating this Mustang. It's rich color, classic style, and fine detail would make any Mustang collector proud to have it sitting alongside their other great cars of the '60s. The issue price is $112 + S&H.
