THIS MODEL HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. The stylists in Chevrolet Studio Number Two were not very happy with the production 1967 Camaro. Having been forced to use the [too short] Chevy II front sub-frame and its [too high] cowl, they strove for a more masculine look in the 1969 re-skin. Wider sheet metal, a bolder front end, windsplits off each wheel well and wider taillights led to a less wasp-waisted look. DM's original '69 Camaro is especially striking in LeMans Blue Metallic with white interior. This is an example of a sparsely optioned late '69 with the 350 engine. It is a near correct combination of the SS and RS packages lacking only the SS's white lettered tires. This model does show its 1993 vintage with some heavy handed engineering such as large door and hood hinges, non-working suspension and lack of an up-top. The engine has radiator and heater hoses but lacks plug wires. Still, lots of separate pieces and correct overall detail make for an excellent model. Available for only a short period of time before being changed, in 1994, to white with orange stripes and red line tires this blue Camaro shows up regularly on the secondary market. There are a few things to watch out for such as color mis-match and doors that ride too high in relation to the rear fenders. My example had a slightly yellowed interior that cleaned up beautifully with wet Q-Tips and Ivory soap. Overall, a very sharp looking, well done model. (03/14/1999) (03/07/1999) |
