THIS MODEL WAS DISCONTINUED 6/30/02. In 1964, Pontiac sprung a surprise on the driving public - a car that looked like Dad's Tempest but acted like a dragster - the GTO. Equipped with Tri-power carbs and dual exhausts, this Estes/De Lorean inspired genie let great gobs of raw power out of the bottle. The "Stop Light Grand Prix" would never be the same! This is one of DM's "plain Janes," with limited extras but meticulous craftsmanship. The interior detailing is sharp and crisp, right down to the readable gauges. Everything fits together well in the engine compartment and, though the engine lacks wiring, it has lots of nice little features. Exterior detailing is well done, including the metallic finish in Irish Mist green. The undercarriage detailing is also up to par. Red-line tires and chromed wheel inserts are a really nice looking touch. There's even a cover on the spare in the trunk. You have to hand it to DM. Even their "budget" models are done with flair. Pontiac turned a family car into a boulevard tire-burner with a creative option list. DM has paid tribute to this road legend with a 1:24 scale model as clean looking as the actual automobile. The issue price is $109 + $5.80 S&H. (08/09/1998) (08/09/1998) |
