Danbury Mint 1:24 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk diecast car

This is one of THOSE models; a special one that's head and shoulders above its peers. The rarely modeled Golden Hawk by Studebaker has been captured in its essence by the Danbury Mint. Indeed, it's the finest interpretation of this car in scale model form that I have ever seen in over 40 years of collecting! To begin with, all proportions and contours of this difficult to model vehicle are all there in complete accuracy. The interior depicts all of the renowned GH's sportiness and luxury... including the 2-tone black & white steering wheel (I'd forgotten about that). The beige gold upholstery is accented in white with anodized (simulated) trim on the doors and dash. The front seatbacks flip forward to provide easier viewing of the rear compartment (Or, if you're 1/24 scale yourself, to provide easier entry into the back seat!).

The exterior is beautifully proportioned and is accented with all the chrome details of the prototype; finished in Tiara Gold with Ivory fins, the overall aspect is breathtaking. The model is stunning! The engine compartment is fully detailed with a supercharged 289CID V8 replete with all plumbing and wiring! Even the decals proclaiming the might of the Paxton supercharger are replicated in flawless detail. Build quality, long a DM forte, is at its usual excellent level. Indeed, after thoroughly examining 4 examples of the replica, I couldn't find fault with any of them. Doors, hoods, trunks, and, yes, even the gas flap door, open and close smoothly fitting snugly into their openings. The model is "tight"; all opening features have that precision feel in their operation without slop or looseness.

This DM offering is well worth having. It is an important car for our hobby because its success will spawn other non-Chevys .... maybe even a Packard or some of those beautiful finned Chryslers... one can only dream. But the Stud is real... put it on your shelf... you won't regret it! The issue price is $112 + S&H. (07/30/1998)
