DISCONTINUED 12/31/02. After a slew of beautiful truck releases, DM is again in the car model mode and is returning with a double edged sword. The beautiful ASTON MARTIN DB-5 is, indeed, a replica of the famous gadget car we first noted in the 1965 JAMES BOND thriller, "GOLDFINGER'. Portrayed in a beautiful Dubonnet paint job with a Parchment LEATHER interior, minus the spy-stuff gadgets, we see a beautiful, faithful, well-built, and near perfectly executed 1/24 scale Aston. As usual, the model exhibits the attention and quality that has made DM many friends and customers. The model is delightful and handsome with details like photo-etched marque badges, a working antenna (goes up and down,) adjustable sun visors, opening gas caps (a la the DM's Golden Hawk,) a spare tire under the floor in the trunk (I've placed a "case of COKE" from the DM collection in the trunk for that realistic touch,) delicate clear and colored taillights, full suspension and doors that open and shut with just the right amount of tension with panel fit that almost rivals the prototype! This is an excellent effort. Kudos DM!!!!!! The downside is, I'm afraid, that this is a rather obscure subject for replication by either Mint. Were it not for its notorious appearances in the James Bond films, most US collectors wouldn't even know what it was. I hope it will be a great success because it should be; it is, literally, a diamond. And, as with all precious gems, it deserves a favored place in our collections. This '64 ASTON-MARTIN DB-5 earns a highly recommended rating from this reviewer. The issue price is $112 + S&H. (06/28/1998) (06/28/1998) |
