DM has gone and done it again... their "First Pick-up Truck Series" has just been endowed with one of the most interesting subjects EVER to come onto our shelves. Ailing Studebaker was bouncing back from the deaththroes of the Great Depression and was about finished draining all the financial reserve from its soon to be defunct sister, Pierce-Arrow, when they launched the most memorable pick-up truck of the pre-war era: The handsome, novel, and totally practical '37 COUPE/EXPRESS. This vehicle merged the front of a Studebaker President (i.e the top of the line) coupe with a very stylish and utilitarian pick-up bed to yield a vehicle that has been referred to as the 30s version of the Chevy El Camino. DM has done a fine job of replicating this great little beast. Ever present is the usual DM quality... from paint to gapless doors, to operating everything... it's a bullseye! The paint job is superb, but, in Cardinal Red, the model takes on a "toylike" aspect it wouldn't have in another color such as Academy Gray or Ruby Maroon. There's a lot of plastic here, too. The red disk wheels look like red PLASTIC wheels; the side panels (also plastic) are removeable and have the same plastic aspect. The model is excellent, though this little "cloud" does detract from the overall presentation. On the plus side, the attention to detail is THERE; RIGHT THERE. It's exciting to see Danbury issue so many new and VERY DIFFERENT vehicles. This one's worth a good space on your shelf.....it's two thumbs UP!!!! The issue price is $111 + $6 S&H.
