DISCONTINUED 12/31/03. The model is absolutely beautiful, done in Burlingame Red & Polar White with matching red seats. The first thing that caught my eye was the incredible detail of the dash board. The numbers on the speedometer are perfectly replicated. You can even see the Hydramatic selector positions ( N D S L R) at the bottom of the speedometer! I had to use a magnifying glass to see the detail - the little clock on the passenger side reads a little after 10:30, the fuel gauge reads about 3/4 full. This detail is beyond what I ever expected on a $112 model. The car is equipped with Olds Fiesta three-bladed spinner hubcaps. The engine detail is perfect right down to the spark plug wires, the fan belt and four barrel carburetor. The delicate letters spelling out OLDSMOBILE are exactly reproduced on the horizontal grill bar as are the globes on the hood and trunk. The suspension goes one better than most of the other cars as the leaf springs on the rear of the car compress. The trunk opens to display a spare tire, with the base of the jack attached to it, fitted between the tire and the fender just like the real GM cars of that era. The model comes with both a convertible boot and a cloth top. The only minor distraction is the big hinges on the doors. I think this is the best production model car I have ever seen and I have seen quite a few. The issue price is $112 + S&H. (07/1997) (07/01/1998) |
