DM's 1936 Ford Hot Rod is based on their Deluxe Cabriolet chassis, but is thoroughly customized. Gone is the Ford engine, replaced by a smallblock Corvette engine that is fully wired. Lakes headers flare out from the exhaust, and the entire setup is clearly visible since the hood sides are absent. The hood top (as well as the rumble seat lid) is louvered with red accents for emphasis. Continuing in the custom tradition, tuck'n'roll seats, door panels and even carpeting has been added. The dash is from a 1940 Ford. Up front, the headlights are built into the fender (they are free-standing on the street version) and the grill continues the red-accented theme. The car sits low to the ground (the suspension found on the Deluxe Cabriolet has been eliminated) and the drive shaft turns freely, although not connected to the wheels. The windshield is chopped down, and sports a decal that appears to read "Bell Bonneville 66." When we asked DM where our clutch pedal went, they responded "this was an automatic transmission." Stereo speakers are embedded in the doors and on either side of the rumble seat. While the working suspension is absent, as noted above, chrome stabilizer bars are added and coilovers are affixed to the rear wheels. Finishing off the model is a glossy black paint job, and you have a choice of a raked top or tonneau cover. White running boards contrast the paint job, and the wheels are red and silver. White sidewall tires, of course. The chrome of the street version has, of course, been shaved. If the car gets dusty, there is a bucket and rag on the floor of the rumble seat. (Updated - thanks to Dave Vander Wal for his help.) The issue price is $112 + S&H. (07/27/1998) (07/27/1998) |
