  Danbury Mint 1:24 1954 Willys U.S. Mail Truck -

Just arrived, the 1:24 replica of the ubiquitous "Jeep" US Postal Service truck is up to the standards we expect from DM. This is the fourth and final (?) model in their mail truck series - and a nice change from the three Fords that preceeded it. The Jeep looks almost out of scale, it is so compact, but of course, the real thing was also quite small.

The model is the essence of simplicity, just as the original was. Sliding doors are tight fitting, almost seamless, the graphics are crisp, the paint smoothly applied, and the usual mail bags and letter bin are included. Of course this is a right-hand drive, with a tray occupying the left "passenger" compartment just as on its big brother.

Under the hood, just the bare bones engine, but completely plumbed and wired. Hard to think of 1954 as being nostalgic, but that's the feeling I get in looking at this little gem. The issue price is $135 + $8 S&H. (10/03/1998)
