Danbury Mint 1:24 1949 Ford Custom Convertible

Here's most likely the best 1/24 rendition of a "SHOEBOX" Ford on the planet. The body is accurately proportioned and detailed. It's in the little things; for example, the lenses are separate clear (or red) plastic pieces; The dials on the dash are minutely picked out; the chrome trim is flawless with the side trim mounted straight along just as Ford intended it to be. The interior has that touch of leather and the "Bedford Cord" fabric IS fabric: the look and texture is quite handsome and unusual(especially in contrast to the smooth and glossy Miami Cream paintwork). The usual DM attention to build quality is present and accounted for...doors, hood, and trunk all operate snugly and fit gap free. The engine is fully wired and the model has a most credible heft to it.

The replica is "minus" the working suspension and the raised top option, (I can live without the former but the deletion of the latter is disconcerting) probably as a result of $$ constraints and the economies of a previously shelved model.

Keep in mind, this DM model was designed over 2 years ago, then held up due to the release of FM's version, but the issue is as fresh as the morning dew, only fitting for the car that brought Ford Motor Company back from the brink of disaster. This one rates 4 STARS...and that's only because I'm still pouting about the missing raised top option! The issue price is $112 + S&H. (09/22/1998)
