Danbury Mint 1:24 1935 Chevrolet Standard Sports Roadster (Discontinued) diecast car

DISCONTINUED 12/31/02. The April 1930 issue of "Automobile Trade Journal" listed 71 roadsters (from 35 manufacturers) available to the American car buyer. By the March 1935 issue this list was down to only two; Chevrolet and Ford. Even with a doubling in sales over the 1934 Standard Series, and despite the ultra modern engineered and styled 1935 Master Series, this was Chevrolet's last Roadster (until the 1953 Corvette). Base price was $465.00.

The Danbury Mint's Roadster is a very dark Regent Maroon with natural seats (and rumble seat), red wheels and blackwalls (whitewalls were not a factory option). With a high "cuteness" factor, the proportions of the body are right on and the fun is in the details. The interior looks correct with invisible door hinges, a correctly tilting windshield, a rear view mirror mounted clock and an under-dash temperature gauge. If you carefully remove the lower seat cushion (watch the shift and brake levers!) you'll find the tool kit underneath. Look for the Chevy bowtie logo on the pedals and upper rumble seat step pad. The chassis appears accurate and incorporates a spring and lever system for the still mechanical brakes. The 75hp six cyinder engine is accurate with wires, plumbing and many separate pieces. Up-top and boot are included. Options depicted on this model include a metal spare tire cover ($5.50), hood ornament ($3.75), bumper guards ($3.45), right tailamp ($3.00) and locking gas cap ($1.50). Possibly unimpressive at first glance, this model grows on you with each inspection. I rate it a 5***** model.

The issue price is $112 + S&H. (04/25/1999)
