Danbury Mint 1:24 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop Pro Street Machine (Discontinued) diecast car

DISCONTINUED 12/31/04. On the back of the title for this replica it states that "The Danbury Mint's '57 Chevy Pro Street Hardtop was created to be the most detailed diecast Pro Street model available today". Well they nailed it...big time. I have not been this excited about a diecast for some time.

The car is bright yellow with a primarily stock body including all the usual Bel Air trim. The only modifications are the cut-out hood, painted bumpers and headlight doors. I thought the '55 Custom Nomad was low, but this thing really hugs the ground on its altered chassis, narrowed read end and Monster tires. A rear view shows detailing which includes a wheelie bar (with operable wheels), cloth wrapped parachute, and rear bumper-mounted battery shut-off switch. The trunk contains the fuel cell, pump and dual batteries.

Powered by a blown big block Chevy with dual quad carbs rising up through the hood opening, an optional cold air intake is included, but I prefer its appearance without the scoop. The engine detail is nothing short of amazing, including ignition wiring, fuel lines, throttle linkage, brake lines, overflow tube, electric fan and more. The interior is no less detailed with full roll cage, competition tach, over-rev light, parachute release, racing pedals, competition seat belts, and a nitrous bottle where the back seat used to be. You have got to see this model to believe it. I could swear they shrank down an actual car. I give it a six out of five stars. As they say it doesn't get much better than this, but where Danbury is concerned I have learned to quit using that phrase. The issue price is $112 + S&H. (09/22/1999)
