Being a “Wrecker-Head” meant I had to have the Danbury Mint’s 1925 Model T Wrecker. My overall impression of the model is it is nicely executed for a $100 model. Unfortunately it costs $135 (plus shipping). The single boom is stationary. A very simplistic gear system operates the lift mechanism. Okay, it was 1925, and things were simple then. But what’s this? Only one door opens? And the opening tool box reveals...tools cast in place. If you look at the very nice 1953 Chevy or 1946 Dodge wreckers from Danbury, both at the same cost, you have to ask yourself: “What the heck gives with this?” In all fairness to Danbury, the models has no cosmetic flaws, and everything, what little there is of it, works as advertised. Maybe if they had included some jumper cables and oil cans or something, I wouldn’t feel so bad about the price. Give this one two ratings: 5 stars for appearance, but only 3 stars for value. This is #3 in DM's series of "Classic Tow Trucks". (11/3/1999) (11/03/1999) |
