Designed by Gordon M. Buehrig, during what I consider the Golden Age of motor cars, the Auburn Speedster is arguably the most beautiful American sports car ever produced - at least for its price range. Not only was the car beautiful, but it was also fast. Its supercharged Lycoming straight eight could propel the car over one hundred miles-per-hour. In fact, a plate on the dash guaranteed that the very car you had just purchased was tested at that very speed!

This is the third iteration of an older issue 1:24 scale image, incorporating the updates done for the second release in 1996. This time it's painted in dark blue, with gold pinstriping and wire wheels. A tan interior and white convertible top set the image off nicely. NOTE: The paint color and gold wire wheels aren't supposed to mimic the real car but are offered in FM's own official colors for the inaugural die cast image of their new Die-Cast Club. After this, the image will be officially retired and the dies supposedly destroyed.

Is this third release justified? In my opinion - yes. The Auburn Speedster was a seminal automobile and its 1:24 scale image is one of FM's best. What better way to retire it than using it to start a new club? If you're a member, you'll know just what I mean.
