The 2002 is the very foundation upon which the modern BMW enterprise was built. Appearing originally in 1968, the unique slant forward styling immediately set apart BMW from the competition in looks and the 2.0 litre power plant, built to accommodate US emissions standards gave it plenty of kick. The 1973 version represents the second generation of the 2002 line, and added is a turbo, muscular wheel flares and the famous Red White a blue striping of BMW M line. Highly prized today, the Turbo in particular was a rarity even during it’s heyday as the powerful engine/light body combination led to safety concerns.

The model is well done, with the unique forward leaning stance (leaving the greenhouse looking so tall it’s as startling now as it was 1973.) Striping, insignia and the rear window defroster are all well executed accoutrements. The flared wheel wells give the model a muscular look atypical of most Euro sedans of the era. A splendid model of an important car.
