One AUTO art's finest 1/18 models gets the Fantastic Voyage treatment, shrinking to 1/43 with fabulous results. It comes in the typical AUTO art display box, though the blue background is a bit jarring with the wonderful (if slightly uneven in places) BRG paint. The XJ13 had a rather star-crossed existence - once even falling off the back of it's transporter. There were so many complications it never did get roundels. While it never did make the run at LeMAns it's developers intended, it's stance and serpent-like attitutde alone make it one of thoe most enticing race cars ever built. Interior details like seat belts, wood steering wheel and racing bucket is tantalizing. Bodywork such as the louvers are crisp and the tires are soft rubber. Outside of the svelte design, it's the V12 engine that's the attraction here. The downdraft trumpets herald the 502bhp it's capable of producing. The model is just like the real car - it looks like it could pounce at any moment. Better keep a hand on your wallet. (05/11/2007) |
