A new model from AutoArt is the 2007 version of the Subaru Impreza WRC car for the Rallye Monte Carlo. WRC, the World Rally Car Series will run 16 events around the world in 2007. Round One, as in past years was the Rallye Monte Carlo which was held January 19th-21st. No WRC events are scheduled for the USA, the closest being in Mexico. The WRC Series is held under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, the FIA that sponsors most types of international racing. All WRC events go on over three days and are usually run on asphalt.
This particular model is the number 7 car that is driven by Petter Solberg of Norway. His co-driver is Phil Mills of the UK. Solberg was the WRC champion in 2003 and finished second in 2004 and 2005. He finished sixth at Monte Carlo. Through the Finland Rally in early August, Subaru ranked third among manufacturers. The Japanese Subaru Impreza has a 2.5 Liter engine putting out 173 horsepower. This, combined with its All-Wheel-Drive has won it popularity in Europe and success at the rallies. The standard version, at US$17,995, is a bargain.
The model, itself, is beautifully finished in the correct Blue shade of the actual car. All the sponsor and identification decals are in place matching available pictures of the real car. The interior detail appears to be all there, including the fire extinguishers. The dark tinted windows did make it impossible to take accurate pictures of the interior of the model. This was my first experience with any type of model race car. I can certainly see why this type of model has so many followers if this outstanding model is any example.
