This Aston Martin DB5 in British racing green is a statement of fine British automotive tradition. AutoArt takes that fine tradition and seizes the moment in diecast metal. When it comes to precision diecast, never has the 1:18th scale market seen such detailing, such a finish, and such high quality chrome and emblem detail. Starting in the front, I have never seen a cleaner or better-finished and detailed grill. The clarity of the front headlamp covers and turn signals is immediately apparent. As your eyes travel over the hood area you can't help but admire the minute detail of the chrome script on the hood. Body panel fit and hood seam alignment is superior to the best mint models and the taillight lens treatment is indistinguishable from the actual car.
Opening the well fitted doors reveals a minutely detailed interior. While the seats are not "soft touch" they do have a texture that makes them look identical to the real thing. All of the clear plastic used in the building of this model looks like crystal glass. If I had to nit-pick something, and believe me I feel guilty doing this, I would have to say the tires would look better if they has a little more detailing on them in the way of sidewall graphics. I also couldn't get the wonderfully detailed Straight-6 engine to start!
In summary, I rate this model a solid "must have" for the 1:18th scale collector. (08/24/1999)
