While I've have been looking out for a model of the Lotus Esprit Turbo for quite some time now, AutoArt seems to be the only manufacturer who makes this particular model in 1:18 scale. The Lotus is certainly an elegant sports car, and AutoArt captures this with the now familiar perfection one has come to expect from them. From the detailed logo on the hood, to the gold striping across the fenders to the wired engine, it's all there. The interior seats are not soft, but the plushness of the luxurious cabin is captured with superb detail. All opening parts operate with the solid reassuring ease of a quality model with flawless fit . Underneath the car, one is treated to a detailed view of the three turbofans in a distinctive yellow. The wheels are a work of art in themselves. The gold spokes are clean and detailed, as framed by the distinct white "Goodyear" lettering on the tire wall, accentuating the car's sporty image. I have one gripe with AutoArt though, and that's with the windows, which are in the up position making the doors extremely difficult to open. When I first unpacked the car the close tolerances made them look static. I had to use a RAZOR BLADE and risk breakage in order to open them. This task was made doubly difficult by the fact that they're heavily spring loaded, and tend to snap shut, making them difficult to reopen. Barring that problem the car is fantastic. If you like the Lotus Esprit, this is a must have. (04/04/2001) |
